Set on the shores of Lake Garda, Hotel Val di Sogno combines breathtaking lake views, warm Italian hospitality and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere just moments from Malcesine.
Discovering Malcesine
After our mountain escape in South Tyrol, we continued south to the shores of Lake Garda, arriving at Hotel Val di Sogno in Malcesine. Set directly on the lake with spectacular views across the water and surrounding mountains, the hotel provided a peaceful base from which to explore one of Italy's most beautiful destinations.
As the evening approached, we boarded a small speedboat for a sunset cruise across the lake. Gliding across the calm waters as the sun dipped behind the mountains provided a wonderful introduction to Lake Garda and a chance to appreciate the beauty of the region from a different perspective.
Returning to the hotel, we enjoyed an aperitif followed by dinner, the perfect way to end our first evening and begin our Lake Garda experience.
Our first full day began with a leisurely stroll into Malcesine, one of Lake Garda's most picturesque towns. Accompanied by a local guide, we explored the charming cobbled streets, hidden corners and historic centre before visiting the town's most famous landmark, Castello Scaligero.
Perched dramatically above the lake, the castle offers stunning views across Lake Garda and provides a fascinating insight into the region's history. Wandering through the old town, it was easy to understand why Malcesine has become such a popular destination, combining lakeside beauty with authentic Italian character.
Returning to Val di Sogno on foot allowed us to appreciate the beauty of the lake at a slower pace. The peaceful waterfront setting, framed by mountains and sparkling water, creates a sense of tranquillity that makes Lake Garda so appealing.
That evening, we gathered for another wonderful dinner, enjoying local flavours while watching the changing colours of the lake as the sun began to set.
Lakeside Walks and Hidden Discoveries
On our final morning, we headed in the opposite direction along the shoreline, discovering another side of Lake Garda away from the bustle of the town centre. The gentle walk offered beautiful views across the lake and an opportunity to appreciate the relaxed pace of life that defines this part of Italy.
Along the way, we visited what is often described as one of the world's smallest waterways, a quirky local attraction that adds to the charm of the area and highlights the many unexpected discoveries waiting to be found around Lake Garda.
With some time remaining to relax and enjoy the hotel's idyllic lakeside location, it was the perfect opportunity to soak up the scenery before our journey home. Although our stay was brief, it provided a wonderful introduction to both Malcesine and the timeless appeal of Lake Garda.
